Renaissance Architect. His early commissions consisted primarily of palaces and villas for the aristocracy, he began to design religious buildings in the 1560s. In 1570 he was appointed 'Architectural adviser' to the Venetian Republic, and the same year, he published his "Four books of architecture." His treatise was especially influential to the designs of Christopher Wren in England and Thomas Jefferson and architecture in the U.S.A.
