David Montgomery was born May 15, 1788 in SC. His parents were Charles C. Montgomery & Margaret (née Reynolds) Montgomery of the Fairfield District, SC. Upon the death of David's father, David was given half of his father's estate. All of his brothers & sisters were given substantial holdings before and after their father's death.
On the 8th of August 1811, David was married to Martha Thompson, daughter of William Y. Thompson, at the Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church, also known as 'Old Brick Church' in Jenkinsville, SC. The wedding was officiated by Reverend James Rogers. Per the 1830 U.S. Census, David and Margaret had 4 son and 3 daughters.
Around 1838, they moved their family, along with other Montgomery, Bell, McKell and Nason relations to Oktibbeha County, MS and settled in and around Starkville; then called Boardtown. David's real estate holdings in Starkville were vast and remained so until his death. He served several terms in the State House of Representatives.
David Montgomery lived to be 84 years old, dying on December 8, 1872 in Starkville. He is buried by his wife, Martha, of 60 years.
