GEO. STEINER, SPARKS CIVIC LEADER, DIES

Funeral Services to be Conducted by Lodge Tomorrow

George Steiner, 345 Twelfth Street, city councilman at Sparks since 1935, and a member of a pioneer Nevada family, died in a local hospital yesterday morning, following an illness of several day's duration.

Steiner was born in Austin and would have been 75 years of age on February 22. His parents settled near Austin in the early days of the state, and he remained there until 1906 when he moved to Sparks. At the latter place, in partnership with Al Blundell, he operated a toggery store until 1934, when he retired.

He was appointed to the Sparks city council in 1935, and has been elected to the office every year since. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and of the Sparks Lion's Club, and was a leader in all civic activities of the railroad town during the many years that he had made Sparks his home.

His wife, Mrs. Annie Steiner, died last August 10. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Georgianna Kane of Sparks, two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Maestretti, wife of Judge Maestretti of Reno, and Mrs. Martinez Spencer of Sparks. A brother lives in Los Angeles.

Resolutions of condolence will be adopted at the meeting of the Sparks city council tonight. Funeral services will be held under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias at the Ross-Burke Chapel, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
