The death Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, of Mrs. Lydia E. Acree Taylor, beloved wife of Atwood Taylor, of St. Louis street, removes from county one of the early pioneers of this section. Mrs. Taylor has been a resident of the county for almost seventy years.
Lydia E. Acree was the daughter of the late Napoleon Acree, a Tennessee pioneer, who came to Howell in 1859. Born January 11 in Weakley County, Tennessee, she was nine years old when the family moved to Howell County. They located on a farm near Peace Valley, where she grew to womanhood. In April 1876. she was married to Atwood Taylor, who survives her. For many years they made their home on a farm near Dripping Springs, five miles north of town, where they reared a large family . A few years ago they retired from the farm and moved to town, buying the borne where they since have resided.
Surviving Mrs. Taylor are her husband and seven sons and one daughter, Jesse Taylor, Ft. Scott, Kas., Lee Taylor, Brighton, Colo; Clarence Taylor, restdlng on the old home farm; Fred Taylor, Peoria, Ill. Henry Taylor, Columbus, Ohio: Commodore Taylor, Dei Moines, Ia.; Ira Taylor, Charleston, W. Va.; and Mrs. Alex Schneider, West Plains.
There also survive two brothers, N.B. Acree, Sapulpa. Okla., and Jesse N. Acree, Norman. Okla ., one sister, Mrs. Travis, of Clarkson, Wash., and sixteen grandchildren.
During her recent illness all of her sons and daughters, grandchildren and brothers have been with her and all, except the brother from Norman, Okla., were at her bedside when she passed away. He had been here and returned home last week.
The funeral services were held at Dripping Springs Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Smith, Pastor of the Christian Church of Willow Springs, and Rev. J. M. Willard, of West Plains. Her seven sons acted as pallbearers.
Burial Was In the Dripping Springs cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor was a devout member of the Christian Church, being a firm believer In the faith for many years. She was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother and will be mourned by the many friends who respected her for her kind Christian deeds.
