Joseph Berol, 78, a furniture salesman and Wilmette Boy Scout organizer, died Monday in Evanston Hospital. Mr. Berol of Wilmette had been the chairman of Boy Scout Troop 9, sponsored by the Community Church of Wilmette, since he helped found the group during the mid-1960s. Mr. Berol also was in sales for Baker, Knapp & Tubbs in the Merchandise Mart for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He is survived by his wife Dale; a son, Stephen; a daughter, Joan Dodson; and five grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Community Church, 1020 Forest Ave., Wilmette.

Funeral services for Joseph A. Berol were held March 14 at the Community Church of Wilmette, 1020 Forest Ave. Mr. Berol died at the age of 78 at Evanston Hospital on March 11. Born in Chicago's Hyde Park area in 1912 Mr. Berol is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dale; and two chldren, Stephen of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Joan Dodson of Wilmette; five grandchildren, and one brother, Elmer, of Fruitland Park, Fla.

Was born with the surname Berolzheim, but the family shortened the name to Berol between 1920 and 1930.
