Abolitionist. Suffragist. She was educated in Hartford, and came to Philadelphia in 1834. She worked with Lucretia Mott in the Female Anti-Slavery Society. As a delegate to World's Anti-Slavery Convention in London (1840) she, along with Mott, Clara Barton, and other women delegates from Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, was excluded from addressing the convention. She joined Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Grew attended the 1850 Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. She was a member of the Committee on Social Relations. She was the subject of poem by Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier which ends: "The way to make the world anew is just to grow - as Mary Grew!" She continued fighting for women's suffrage until her death.
