Joseph Herman Morris, 78, of Waynesburg, R. D. 2 (Morrisville), died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 1964, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, after a long illness.
He was born July 25, 1886, in Whiteley Township, a son of the late Lindsey and Margaret Swearingen Morris.
He was a member of the Fordyce Methodist Church. He resided all his life in the Waynesburg vicinity.
He was a retired mechanic and had been employed by the Pennsylvania State Highway Department and the Greene County Memorial Hospital.
His first wife, Essie Belford, died in 1941. He is survived by two children from this marriage, a daughter, Ruth, wife of Kenneth Coy, of Springfield, Ohio, and one son, Herman Alf Morris, of Waynesburg. One son, Sam, was killed in World War II.
His second wife, Jessie Farabee Morris, whom he married January 7, 1943, survives. As does one stepdaughter, Gene, wife of James Newkirk, of Waynesburg, R. D. 1.
Four grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was the last of his immediate family. Three brothers and one sister are deceased.
