P B CALLISON DEAD

Well Known Greenwood Citizen Passes Away

Greenwood, Jan 12 [1919] - Preston Brooks Callison, well known citizen and former legislator of this county, died at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning at his home in the Callison section. Mr Callison had been sick for some time and his family and friends had realized that there was little chance for recovery. The news of his death will be received sorrowfully by a large circle of friends. He was well known all over the county.

Mr Callison was in his 63rd year, having been born on July 6, 1856. He was the oldest son of the late State Senator James Callison, who was one of the most interesting and striking personalities this section of the State has ever had. Senator James Callison was a native of Ireland. Landing in New York as a lad, he came to Charleston and then settled in this section bearing his name and soon became the leader of a large following.

After serving several terms in the legislature from Edgefield County he was elected to the Senate and was a valuable legislator. He was the captain of a gallant company in the War Between the States.

Preston Brooks Callison followed his father as a legislator, being honored with two terms in the legislature from this county. He was married to Miss Mattie E White, who passed away 40 years from the date of their marriage. She died in 1916.

Mr Callison is survived by the following sons: Edward W Callison of Callison, T Cleveland Callison, a prominent member of the Lexington bar; James A Callison, Jr, now in France. He leaves four daughters: Mrs Claude Rodgers of Callison, Mrs John Flinn of Montgomery, Alabama, who was here on a visit at the time of his death; Mrs P C Polaittie and one unmarried daughter, Miss Mamie Lee Callison.

James W Callison of Greenwood is a brother and Mrs P B Kemp of Kirksey is a sister.
