MRS. W. H. BEARD

Mrs. W. H. Beard, a resident of this county for nearly sixty two years, passed away at the family home north of Blair on last Thursday evening, Oct. 6th, at the ripe old age of 79 years, 3 months and 19 days.

Deceased was born in Orange County, Indiana, and in her early childhood came with her parents to Burt county where the home was established near Arizona. Here she grew to mature womanhood, and was married to W. H. Beard on May 14, 1871. The young folks at once started their home life on the farm which Mr. Beard homesteaded some time before, and on which they have continuously resided since that time. For nearly sixty two years she and her husband have lived their lives together, a pair of happy helpmates, taking the privations of the earlier days cheerfully, and walking down the sunset of their defining days in peace and happiness to the very end.

To this worthy couple nine children came to bless their home and made their lives more full, and of these nine children six were present at the end and received a mother's blessing and farewell. These were Etta Ermina, Ida May, Maude Emelie, Nora Bell, Fannie and John Myron and those others who join the aged father in his great grief are Wm. E. of Wiggins, Colo; Harry M. of Red Cloud, Nebr. and J. Byron of Blair. She also leaves one brother, William Denny of Omaha and eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church, of which organization she was a consistent member of long standing, with Rev. W. H. Jackson, local pastor in charge, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

MRS. W.H. BEARD BURIED ON SUNDAY

PIONEER WOMAN HAD BEEN MARRIED FOR NEARLY 62 YEARS

Mrs. W.H. Beard, Washington and Burt County pioneer, who last May celebrated her 61st wedding anniversary, died at her home north of Blair Thursday at the age of 79 years, three months and 19 days. She had lived in the vicinity of Arizona from early girlhood until the time of her marriage, when she moved with her husband to a farm he had homesteaded north of Blair, where she had lived since.

Mrs. Beard, who was Sarah Denny, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Denny, was born in Orange County, Indiana, June 17, 1853, and in her early girlhood came with her parents to Burt County where they established their home near Arizona. She grew to fuller girlhood in the pioneer surroundings of that day.

On May 14, 1871, she was married to W.H. Beard and moved with him to the Beard homestead and during the 62 years of her married life she had seen and taken an active part in the multitude of changes that have occurred in this vicinity.

Her husband, Ernest, was renting a home in Herman in 1920. Mina began having health issues around 1918 (according to her obit), and perhaps he was unable to care for her himself. He was noted to be a mail carrier out of Herman in 1917, and perhaps he just could not be with his wife.

Mina passed away in Missouri in 1925, and Ernest relocated to Blair by 1930, where he was declared an "inmate", and may very well have been a resident of the Crowell Home, which cared for the elderly.

NOTE: "Mina" has an adopted daughter, Mrs. Fred Smith of Chateau, Montana, listed in her obit. I believe this may refer to the Anna Bell mentioned above.
