Percival Brayton Stuter

Percival Stuter was born in Thornville, OH to Harriet Chamberlain and Jacob Stuter. One sister Samantha Stuter Paul and one brother Wilson Shannon Stuter. He worked on the Bright farm after the death of his father, Jacob and when he was 17 years old joined the Union Army, OH volunteers. He was five feet eight inches tall, had a light complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair. The date was August 9, 1862. He was a medic and served in the Army 3 years. He was appointed a Corporal on Feb. 6, 1864. He mustered out at Camp Harker, TN on June 13, 1865. He must have made the long trip to California about 1866. In one of his statements he says he stayed in Neveda for six months. (Pension # 954044)And in a petition his wife made in 1917 it was stated that he lived in California for 50 years. In those years before he married Carrie Ryan he amassed a large number of gold mines and mineral rights in Kern County, CA. He was on Sherman's March to the sea.
Inscription says: Co. D 90th Rgt. Ohio Infantry Vol.
In records from Kern County he is listed as being 5'11" tall with dark complexion grey eyes and dark hair. He was 46 years old when he gave this statement.
