JUANITA B. "SUE" AUSTIN, 81

Longtime Blair business-woman, Juanita B. (Sue) Austin, 81, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, after an extended illness.

In accordance with her wishes, her body was cremated. Private graveside services will be held at the Blair Cemetery.

Juanita Bell Carman was born November 15, 1928, to Ernest and Elsie Carman in Montgomery County, Iowa. She and her family later moved to Central City, where she received her education. In the late 1950s she graduated from Grand Island School of Cosmetology and moved to Blair where she operated the Modern Beauty Salon for many years.

Mrs. Austin loved the Lord and her family. She was very active in the raising of her younger siblings and her beloved grandchildren. A marvelous cook, she was affectionately known to her family as the "pie lady," and her home was the site of many wonderful family gatherings. "Grandma Sue" also loved to sing, and taught her grandchildren many of her favorite old tunes.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sami Sue Austin of Palatka, Fla., and Candance and Bob Mahlendorf of Fremont; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Paula Carman or North Platte, and Terry and Mary Carman of Muscatine, Iowa; two sisters and a brother-in –law, Joan Moderow of Marquette and Gayle and Larry Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Austin; brothers, Robert Carman and Ronald Carman; and a sister, Fayetta Green.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Blair where Mrs. Austin was a member for many years.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
