Walter H. Torno, 59, of 770 Woodhaven Dr., Amherst was pronounced dead in Amherst Hospital yesterday at 8:30 a.m. Stricken at home, he had been under a doctor's care.
He was a lifelong resident of Amherst, where he was born, and was a veteran of World War II, having received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Torno, an employee of Lorain Division of Koehring Co., was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Elmer Johnson American Legion Post , Amherst VFW Post; Amvets Post 47 and the Moose Lodge of Lorain.
A sister, Mrs. Alice Wilson and a brother, Elmer Torno, both of Amherst, survive.
Friends may call at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert A. Happel officiating. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
