Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Newcastle, Ireland, he served as a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Prince Cort's Rifle Brigade, British Army. At Lucknow, India, on the March 11, 1858, Corporal Nash's company was engaged with a large number of the enemy near the Iron Bridge. When Corporal Nash and an officer with four other men were at the end of a street, they with opposed by a considerable body of the enemy. One of the four was shot through both legs, and became utterly helpless. Corporal Nash with other comrade carried the wounded man a considerable distance, exposed to enemy fire while the officer and the others covered their retreat. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was promoted Sergeant and awarded the Victoria Cross on December 24, 1858. He died at age 50 in London, England.
