Burlington Weekly Free Press, June 22, 1883:" We regret to chronicle the death, Sunday afternoon, of Mr. Edgar W. Burritt. Mr. Burritt had long been ill and a fatal issue of his sickness was not unexpected. He was a young man of many excellent qualities, kindhearted, pleasant and liberal; and he leaves many friends and no enemies."

Edgar was a member of the Ethan Allen Engine company (fire station). He was an apothecary and druggist, operating his business at 96 Church Street. About 1872, Edgar had a house built at 196 South Union Street. His family continued to live at the home until about 1924. In 1988, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of the South Union Street Historic District. The building still stands in 2015.
