Albert was the son of the late Albert R. and Maude Scott Allen Sr. Mr. Allen was a retired captain of the Beckley Fire Department, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member, past commander and past post adjutant of American Legion Post No. 32, a scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 6 of the First Baptist Church for 25 years, a holder of the Silver Beaver Award, one of the highest awards for leaders in Scouting, and a member of the Order of the Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America and the staff of Boy Scout Camp Roland at Bastian, Va., for many years. He was named Civitan Club Citizen of the year in 1983 and served for many years on the American Legion Cemetery Committee. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Barney Allen; a daughter, Mrs. Sam (Barbara) Ratliff of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, N.C., two brothers, Arnold E. and Thomas G. Allen, both of Beckley; and three grandchildren.
