John Calvin was twice married. First to Miss Ella Taylor on December 13th 1881; with Rev. Horace Rabb officiating. John and Ella had one daughter:
Sarah Rabb {m. W.W. Trobaugh} (1882-1946)
After Ella's death in 1883, John now a widow with an infant daughter, married Miss Laura Croom on September 9th 1884. They had the following known six children:
Monnie (1885-1891)
Ina May {m. J.W. Gragg}(1887-1974)
Minnie Agnes {m. C. McCormick}(1888-1924)
Boyce Bonner (1891-1965)
Otis Millen (1897-1993)
Samuel Young (1899-1982)
John Calvin and Laura raised their children in Rosemark in Shelby County, Tennessee; where John had a productive farm. They were members of Richard A.R.P. Church; where they were married.
On November 25th 1935, John Calvin McCalla was departed his earthly life, due to injuries when his buggy was struck by a car; as he was enroute to the Farmer's Market in Memphis. He was in the 76th year, 7th month and 7th day of his age.
