Flora S. (Youngs) Quay, daughter of Rachel Rebecca (Fredricks) and Eli Young(s), married Perry C. Quay, son of Maria (Rarick)and John Quay, October 13, 1879, in Marcellus, Cass County, MI. Flora and Perry Quay lived on forty acres directly south of Flora's parents, Rachel Rebecca "Becky" (Fredricks) and Eli Young(s), in Section 23 of Newberg Township, Cass County, MI. Early 20th century plat books of Newberg Township show that after the death of Becky Young(s) in 1904, Perry and Flora became the owners of Becky's 40 acre farm in Section 23, giving them a total of 80 acres to farm. With no sons in the family, only daughters (Mildred M. married Albert J. Bogert; Iva M., married (1)James Munson and (2) Rolland D. Stanard; and Hazel R. married Coy A. Bair), Perry must have found farming a difficult burden. After his death Flora often said, "The farm killed Perry."
Flora lived to be almost 100 years old. After Perry's death, she eventually moved into Jones to live. Her middle initial, an S., is used both in her husband's obituary and the 1910 US Census. The use of Y as her middle initial on her cemetery stone probably refers to her maiden name, Youngs.
