Richard L. "Dick" Taylor, 74, of Jacksonville, died Thurday, April 11, 2013, at his home.
Dick was born May 4, 1938, to M. Leroy and Orvetta (Shaw) Taylor.
He began working as a telegraph operator for the Wabash Railroad and retired in February of 2001 from the Norfolk Southern Railroad Maintenance of Way after 40 years of service. While with the railroad he served for eight years as the Missouri State Legislative Representative of Maintenance and Way, lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way and was General Chairman of the Wabash Federation from 1986 until his retirement.
He was a 50 year member of the Cairo Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Cairo Baptist Church.
He married Maxine Shoffner Peterson on July 3, 1989, in Las Vegas, NV and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Rick Taylor and his wife Marie, Travis Taylor and his wife Cathy, and Teresa Taylor all of Jacksonville; a step-son, Randy Peterson and his wife Bonnie of Grain Valley, MO; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a step-son-in-law, Steve Condra Suwanee, GA.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jeffery; and a step-daughter, Ginger Condra.
Memorial contributions to the Cairo Baptist Church would be appreciated.
Services honoring and celebrating the life of Dick will be Monday, 11:00 a.m., at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayers and interment will follow at the Felps Cemetery, rural Jacksonville. Words of support and comfort may be shared with the family at a visitation which will be held Sunday, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Cater Funeral Home.
