William James Allen, 95, formerly of 1107 N. 3rd St., died Wednesday in Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, where he had resided for the past seven years.
A family service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Clinton Chapel, Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Last, St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was born May 25, 1892 in Whiteside County, Ill., to Fred and Ida Smith Allen. He married Lillie M Andress in 1917. She died in 1920. He latter married Louise B. Bertamsen, Feb. 21, 1921 in Clinton. She died in 1983.
He was a rural Clinton mail carrier on Route 3 for 43 years, retiring in June of 1962.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church; American Legion Post No. 190; International Order of Oddfellows, where he was a past noble grand in 1935; past senior counselor of United Commercial Travelers, encampment in 1936, Patriaich Militants; and a member of the Rebekah Lodge Association; Veterans Affairs Commission of Clinton County; Lyons Club; and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Survivors include a son, Ralph W., of Spring Hill, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Goers, of Clinton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy and a son in infancy.
