Roger PITKIN was the oldest child of William PITKIN and Hannah GOODWIN, born in 1662. He died on 24 Nov, 1748.

He married Hannah STANLEY, daughter of Capt. Caleb STANLEY and Hannah COWLES, in 1683 in East Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut. [note that in that time, this family lived lived in what is now East Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut but East Hartford was simply known as "Hartford on the east side of the Connecticut River" until 1783 when it was finally incorporated as a separate township apart from Hartford. Because of this, all locations will be in today's East Hartford unless otherwise specified).


They had the following children:

Roger was a farmer. He built and settled near his father on the first Main Street. He was one of the leading citizens in town. He was one of the selectmen of the town for several years and its first school committee-man in 1720. He was a commissioner on the "Great Meadows".

Roger was made as a Captain of the first militia company on the east side of the river, the then (1695) Third Company State Miliita. He was the first to organize the first military company in Hartford, East Side, the then third company, Nineteenth Regiment State Militia. Several other Pitkins were also involved in the military affairs.

He helped defend the town (what is now known as East Hartford today) against the Indians n 1704 and other times.

He "owned his covenant" with "First Church of Hartford" on 22 Nov 1685 and his oldest child, Hannah, was baptized that day. On 14 Aug 1692, he and his wife, brother William and his wife, were allowed full communion at the "First Church of Christ in Hartford".

He died at age 87 in East Hartford.
