Captain Green served with the Army Air Forces
in England.

He was one of eighteen Army personnel killed
(6 crew, 12 passengers) when B-17F
Flying Fortress #42-5791, nicknamed
"Ruthless," of the 95th Bomb Group, 334th
Bomb Squadron, struck a hill, two miles
southwest of Newmarket, Wales, United Kingdom.

The bomber had departed for an "R&R" flight
to Scotland.

Flying through heavy cloud cover and in
freezing fog, the navigator relied on maps,
and when the pilot thought they had reached
the coast, descended out of the clouds but
they were off course by four miles and still
over mountainous terrain.

Service members who perished were:
(Crew):

Alden R Witt
William J Gaffney
Alan S Grant
Howard J Leddy
Kingsley F Spitzer
Wendell Verbulecz

Louis S Green
