Ida (Olson) Norton 3/29/1911 ~ 3/18/2010 Ida (Olson) Norton passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on March 18, 2010. She would have celebrated her 99th birthday on March 29th.Ida was born on March 29, 1911, in Provo, Utah, the daughter of Edwin Olson and Dora (Lowry) Olson. She was the youngest of three girls. She spent her early years in Provo, with numerous visits to her father's photography studio. The family moved to Salt Lake City in order for her to attend LDS High School. After graduation, she attended the University of Utah, where she graduated in 1933 with a degree in botany. Ida worked as a caseworker for the Salt Lake County Welfare Department, and later as an interviewer for the University of Michigan research department. Ida married Joseph A. Norton on September 9, 1937. He had planned to ask for her hand in marriage on Valentine's Day that spring, but he couldn't wait for her answer and proposed a week early. They are the parents of three children: Linda (Stan) Korte, Joseph David Norton, and Carol (Ray) Sherer. They have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She loved her role as a homemaker, as well as her various callings within the LDS Church. She especially loved to sew, and spent many late night hours when the house was quiet working at her sewing machine. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well, until macular degeneration took her sight in her later years. Her sisters, Maurine Bullock and Ireta Ritter, and her son, Joseph David Norton, preceded Ida in death. Ida was a resident at Highland Care Center for her final few months following a stroke in November of 2009. Her family would like to thank the many wonderful staff members at Highland Care for their kindness and compassion. We will treasure our many memories of her and take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. Friends and family may visit an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Please leave condolences for the family at
