He was salutatorian of his graduating class at Gainesville (Florida) High School in 1937 and number one in mathematics, winning a scholarship to the University of Florida. In 1947, he relocated to Atlanta and worked for Community Gas Co and later, became Vice President, Empire Gas Engineering Company, forerunner to McDonough Construction Company. In Houston, he was the mechanical coordinator for the 33 story Tennessee Gas Building and a 50 story office building for the Republic National Bank in Dallas. He later formed the T & B-Scottsdale with four associates, in Atlanta. They built churches, schools, and water treatment facilities, primarily in Georgia and the Southeastern United States. He was well known and respected by associates in the industry. He held State Licenses in just about every Engineering Field including Electrical, HVAC and Plumbing. He was also drafted by the Georgia State Licensing Board to help formulate the test questions for the licensing exams in his specialties.

After retiring from T & B, he was a consultant to many construction companies in the Atlanta area. Active in retirement, at 65, he learned to ski. At 75, he took computer courses, and learned Automated Computer Aided Drafting, which he enjoyed until his death. He was a devoted animal lover and gardener. He faithfully walked his dog, Chris, and carried treats for neighborhood dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Hudgins Clark of Atlanta and their daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Sharifi. Other survivors include daughters, Patricia McClellan and Jean Godwin of Gainesville, Florida, and son, Michael Clark, of Cumming, Georgia, from his first marriage to Sarah Carr.
