Mahala Isaacks was born to Elijah and Esther Donaho Isaacks on February 24, 1812 in Pike County, Mississippi. Her father was a Private in the Nixon's 13th Regiment in the War of 1812 with the British. Not only did her father serve in the 1812 War but her grandfather Samuel was a Corporal under Captain Thomas Blackston in the 7th Regiment, Infantry. Samuel also served in the American Revolutionary War, in North and South Carolina, under General Francis Marion at the Battle of Cowpens. He held the rank of Private and worked as an Indian Spy, in Edgefield County, South Carolina in 1876. Mahala was the seventh born of the ten children and her siblings were Elizabeth, John William, Samuel, Mary Isabelle, Matilda, Mahulda, Lucinda, Andrew Jackson, and Alfred Isaacks. In 1822, Mahala's father and family moved, by covered wagons, to Texas in the Bevil's Colonly.

In 1827, Mahala marries Hardy Pace in Jasper County, Texas. Together they had fifteen children and they were Eliza, Elizabeth, Sarah Sally, Matilda, James, Elijah Eli, Mary Ann Polly, Hiram, Hardy Allen, Mahala Ann, Minerva Virginia, John Isaacks, Rebecca Ethel, Amanda and Nancy Isaacks. The Paces were farmers, in the 1850's and their property was worth $2,500, according to the 1850 Census in Jasper, Texas. In the 1860 Census, the Pace's property value was $9,000 and personal value was $4,000.

On July 28, 1870, Mahala Isaacks Pace passed away in Jasper, Texas. Mahala was not just one of the first born in the first years of the United States but also a citizen of the Republic of Texas.
