E. C. Baxter, age 69, of Newport, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at his Home, after a battle with brain cancer. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela and Carmack Baxter; brothers, Ralph, John R., Ervin and Lee Baxter; and sister, Mary Dawson.

He is survived by his wife Marie Baxter of Newport; son, Brian Baxter of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jerry Sutton of Sevierville; brother, Hart Baxter of Newport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ted Allen, Emma Dean and Hollis Allen of Newport; Pat and Homer Martin of Nashville; Brenda Joyce and Earl Jack Shults of Cosby; Marty Carolyn and Carroll Barwick of Georgia; grandchildren, Molly Ann Baxter and Ayden Reed Sutton; also a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Leon Large officiating. Burial will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in Baxter-Templin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
