Sergeant Tidy was a rear gunner aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-29 Superfortress #42-6271. The crew was forced to bail out in the vicinity of "the hump" while on a cargo mission from India to China, due to a runaway propeller. All crew bailed out, but Sgt. Tidy did not survive. His body was found floating in a river two days later.
