Obituary
Clarence L. Harbaugh, 82, of 12091 Broad St., died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Waynesboro Hospital due to a heart attack.

Born April 18, 1918, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Guy S. and Ethel M. Cordell Harbaugh.

He graduated from Westinghouse High School, Pittsburgh, in 1937.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

Prior to the military, he worked at Hess Planing Mill, Waynesboro, and later worked as a general manager under Harbaugh's contractors for 17 years. He retired in 1983 from Mont Alto Campus of Pennsylvania State University as maintenance supervisor and then did general contracting for family and friends.

He was a former member of Harbaugh Reformed Church and later the Church of Apostles United Church of Christ. He taught Sunday School at both churches. He was a member of Rouzerville United Methodist Church, Rouzerville, where he attended the Adult Sunday School Class. He served on the board of trustees and as chairman. He also served on the administrative board of the church, the building and grounds committee and was on the General Conference.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro, and National AARP. He served on the Republican Committee of Franklin County, the Waynesboro School Board and the Washington Township Planning Commission. He was founder of Franklin County Organic Gardening Association.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Fannie B. Fitz Harbaugh; three daughters, Betty M. Carson of Forrest Hills, Md., Jean A. Rosenberger of Waynesboro and Sara J. Hollinshead of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Earl K. Harbaugh of St. Charles, Ill., and Ray A. Harbaugh of Waynesboro; a sister, Ruth Woller of Greencastle; a brother, Earl Harbaugh of Greencastle; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Harbaugh, in 1996, and a grandson, Kevin J. Hollinshead.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rouzerville United Methodist Church, 11977 Old Route 16, Rouzerville. The Revs. Jeffrey S. Swanger and Carl L. Buterbaugh will officiate. Private burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, near Rouzerville, at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends after the services on Wednesday in the church social room.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rouzerville United Methodist Church, 11977 Old Route 16, Waynesboro, PA 17268, or to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Grove-Boxersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
