Joseph L. Monacella Jr., 77, 3513 Allegheny Road, died Thursday, June 27, 1996, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born on Oct. 24, 1918, in Erie, son of the late Joseph and Angelina DiPlacido Monacella.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Army Air Forces as a B-17 tailgunner. He flew 35 missions over France and Germany with the 8th Air Force.
He was a project engineer at Erie Forge and Steel until he retired in 1980. He was a longtime member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and their bocce league.
He was a member of the Zukor and Danish clubs, the 401st Bomb Group Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nicole Weis, in 1985. Surviors include his wife of 48 years, one son, two daughters, one brother, and 5 grandchildren. Friends may call at the Brugger Home for Funerals, W. 38th at Greengarden Blvd., on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend services there on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:30 a.m.
Commital services will follow at Calvary Cemetery Chapel with private burial at Trinity Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monsignor Wilfred Nash Fund at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1602 W. 26th, Erie, Pa. 16502.
