OBIT:

Elvin C. McKenzie, 83, a longtime Grandview resident and farmer, died at his home in Grandview, Friday, September 23. McKenzie was born October 19, 1905 in Quincy to Charles and Elvina McKenzie. In 1916 he moved with his parents and family to the Kittitas Valley. He was graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1923. In 1937 he married Ann Brunson in Ellensburg.

In 1945 the McKenzie family moved to Grandview and McKenzie and his brothers, George and Don, developed 460 acres from sagebrush when the Roza Cannal was completed. Over the years he raised potatoes, alfalfa seed, asparagus, grapes, and many other crops. He retired in 1976 and moved his family from his farm on Griffin Road.

McKenzie was a life member of the Farm Bureau in Kittitas and Benton counties; he was one of the founding members of the Benton County organization. He was a director of the Federal Land Bank for 26 years, and a director of the Yakima Valley Grape Producers for 26 years, and a director of the Yakima Valley Grape Producers for 12 years. He was an active member of the Grandview Rotary Club and the Grandview United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Anne McKenzie, of Grandview; one daughter, Mary Anne Miller of Prosser; two sons, Stuart McKenzie of Gresham, Oregon, and John McKenzie of Sunnyside; two sisters, Margaret Harrell and Eleanor McGrath, both of Ellensburg; and one brother, Don McKenzie of Yakima. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 28 at 1 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, Grandview. Burial will be in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Grandview.

Those wishing to honor his memory may do so by contributing to the Grandview Methoidst Church Memorial Fund to the Grandview Rotary Scholarship Fund, or to the charities of donor's choice.
