Harley was our sweet Cocker who we still miss soooo much. I saw him emerge from his first house with his siblings, all romping and playing while I was skating with my friend and we were about to turn the corner home. He was obviously the runt and the only red cocker in the litter. My husband's nickname was Red, and he had been bemoaning the loss of our sweet girl Cheena. So I scooped him up and took him home, really as a joke, but when my husband grabbed him and said "It's my dog!" what could I do! He never left us again.
Harley turned out to be the perfect name as he knew the sound and would chase the guy down the street almost daily as he rode home on his Harley. Never any other bike, only Harleys! At every gathering he had his own chair. I learned quickly to supply HIS chair or he would take mine over! He was a 'crooner' and as he got older I would hear him howling even when I was only steps away. He was a mommy's boy and never liked being far from my side.
At the last, he started refusing to eat and I resorted to baby food and pedialight. He finally refused those too and after getting him to drink some, he threw it all back up and I knew the end was near. He fell asleep on the couch next to me and was gone a while later. I was blessed our son just got home for a visit and he wrapped him up and buried him under our old oak tree.
