| Birth: | Feb. 12, 1830 | | Death: | Mar. 9, 1861 | Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland, he was serving as Assistant Surgeon with the 90th Regiment (later The Cameronians, The Scottish Rifles) when he performed the deeds for which he was awarded the VC. From his citation: "On 26th September 1857 at Lucknow, India, Assistant Surgeon Bradshaw, with another surgeon [Anthony Dickson Home, who was also awarded the VC] was ordered to remove the wounded men left behind when the troops forced their way into the Residency. The dhooly [stretcher] bearers had left the dhoolies, but not withstanding the close proximity of the sepoys [native insurgents], the two surgeons managed to get some of the bearers together and Assistant Surgeon Bradshaw, with about 20 dhoolies, after becoming separated from the rest of the party, succeeded in reaching the Residency in safety." Bradshaw passed away in Thurles at the age of only 31. His VC medal is in the collection of the Army Medical Services Museum, Mytchett, Surrey. (bio by: Paul F. Wilson)
