Bob Yannes, 91, of Drums, PA passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at home on Thursday, October 20, 2011.
He was predeceased by his son James R. Jr.; parents William and Zamaria (Cartwright) Yannes; brothers Otto and Don; and sisters Mildred, Violetta, Ruth, Gladys and Lorraine.
He is survived by his dear wife of 63 years, Madeline; sons William (Donna) Yannes, Gary (Kathy) Yannes; daughter Marilyn (David) Bowen; grandsons William Jr., Steven and Adam, granddaughters Jennifer, Rachel and Elizabeth, 14 great-grandchildren Kevin, Kristina, Troy, Madeline, Colin, James, Willow, Adam Jr., Nathaniel, Aiden, Dylan, Connor, Alexis and Abigail, sister Florence Kryzak, and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was born in Freeland, PA on March 4, 1920. He served in WWII in Europe. After returning home from overseas, he worked with Foster Wheeler Corporation until his retirement after 36 years.
Bob was active in the American Legion Post 795 of Drums and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 589 and the Butler Township Senior Citizens. He was very involved with the Good Shepherd Church in Drums, PA as a greeter and Sunday breakfast server as well as many other social and spiritual activities.
Bob's many personal interests included a passion for carpentry, winemaking and palm cross weaving. But he will be remembered most for his sense of humor and his selfless and generous love for his family. Bob's family wish to thank the staff at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Hazleton State General Hospital, and his doctors Dr. Washinsky, Dr. Lenko, Dr. Ghandi and Dr. Mohan for their compassionate care.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Good Shepherd RC Church, S. Hunter Highway, Drums. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Friends may call Tuesday evening 6-9 pm.
