An extract from the publication "The Thompson's":
Mary Ann died 5 October 1897 near Kennedy's Crossing on the Milk River in Alberta. A thirteen year old boy named George Culver stayed with the Waters family. At the time of her death, William was called away on business and George was left to look after things. They expected a baby in two months. A storm came up and Mary Ann realized she was going into labor so she sent George for help. Due to the storm, he had to take shelter in the coulee to keep from freezing to death. When he returned he found both mother and child had died.
