"Alexander N. Herries, of Walden, President of Charles G. Smith Assoc. Inc., died June 28, 2005 in Goshen. He was 74.

The son of the late John R. Herries and Winifred North Herries, he was born September 22, 1930 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

After graduating from high school in 1948, he worked for Elmer T. Hebert in NYC, then joined Charles G. Smith Assoc. in 1962 in Newburgh. He was credentialed as a Hardware Consultant in 1962.

He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley Construction Contractors Assoc., former member of the Board of Directors of the NY Society of Hardware Consultants and a member of the Door and Hardware Institute.

He was the widower of Marilyn McAvoy Herries.

Survivors include his son John P. Herries and his wife Patricia of Springfield, Va.; daughter Margaret M. Gillespie and her husband Patrick of Danville, NH; son Peter M. Herries and his wife Ellen of Walden; daughter Elizabeth G. Herries and her husband Donald Aibel of Alpine, NJ; son Edward M. Herries and his wife Tara of Bradford, Mass.; ten grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on July 7 at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY.

Private burial will take place at the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden.

Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors."
