Charles was born about 10 May 1793 based on his age at death (59 years, 4 months & 7 days). He the son of James Hughes and Catharine Disbrow. Presumably he was born on their farm in Nottingham Twp., old Burlington Co., NJ (now Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co.). He married Sarah Schooley.
