Jackson--Harry Langston of Jackson Route 5, died unexpectedly Tuesday night at 9 at the St. Francis Medical Center where he had been admitted shortly before.
Mr. Langston, 72 years old, was born Jan. 31, 1906, near Crump, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fate Langston. On Feb. 7, 1925, he was married to Miss Bertha McHenry in Jackson.
The Langstons moved to Jackson in 1953 from Marble Hill.
Mr. Langston was known as a meat cutter, retiring in 1968, from Wards Fairway Market in Cape Girardeau. Prior to this employment, he worked at the International Shoe Co. plant, Central Packing Co. and Esicar's Old Hickory Smokehouse all in Cape Girardeau, and at the former Jackson Dressed Meat Plant.
He was ordained a deacon in the Whitewater Baptist Church in 1946. In 1953 he became a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and has been a deacon there since. Mr. Langston was active in church affairs and in the Sunday School department, and also had served as a Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are his wife; three sons; a brother, Marvin Langston, Whitewater; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.
Service will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, with the Rev. Anthony Jordan, pastor of First Baptist Church, Jackson, officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery, Jackson.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight.
