Ruth Virginia Adams Smith
Ruth Virginia Adams Smith, 102, died on Jan. 14, 2005, in Deltona, Fla., at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.
She was born on June 24, 1902, in East Boothbay, Maine, the daughter of Frank C. and Sarah (Seavey) Adams. She married Russell C. Smith of Yarmouth, Maine, on Dec. 15, 1924, in Fall River, Mass. He preceded her in death in 1926. They had one son, Addison.
Ruth spent most of her adult life in Essex, Conn., where she retired from E.E. Dickinson Witch Hazel Co. in 1972. Following the death of her sister, Esther, in 1990, she moved to Mt. Carmel, residing during the summer months with her sister, Priscilla Thomson. During the winter months, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Addison and Patricia Smith, in Deltona.
Her hobbies included caning old chairs and working on the grounds of her home. Other interests included doing crossword puzzles and playing cards, pinochle, whist and solitaire. She also enjoyed reading and listening to music, audio books and correspondence, as well as relaxing on her screened-in porch.
She continued to be mentally and physically active until shortly before her death and always enjoyed going out to restaurants and shops where she could visit with people. Her positive attitude and interest in people made her a joy to be around. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Ruth" to those who knew her.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Addison and Patricia Smith, Deltona; grandsons, Russell (Sharon) Smith, Deltona, and Christopher (Sabrina) McDavitt, Perth, W. Australia; granddaughter, Wendy Flentri, Perth, W. Australia; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Adams, East Hampton, Mass.; sister, Priscilla Thomson, Mt.
