Catherine married Samuel Harper on July 2, 1795 at North Bend in the Northwest Territory (present-day Hamilton County, Ohio) by the justice of the peace Aaron Cadwell. Samuel Harper had enlisted in 1791 in Loudoun County, Virginia, into a company commanded by Gen. Arthur St. Clair, and helped fell trees and erect a block-house at Fort Washington (present-day Cincinnati, Ohio). He was part of St. Clair's march into the Northwest Territory, and was one of the troops ambushed by the Miami war chief Little Turtle on Nov. 4, 1791 at St. Mary's Creek, a tributary of the Wabash River. He was wounded twice, but escaped and later acted as a wilderness scout for the military. By 1805 he had settled his family in Liberty Township, Butler County, Ohio, but eventually settled in Wayne Township, Warren County, Ohio where he died in 1826.
