Born in Hampshire Co. Virginia the son of Sickfrits Kabrick and Elizabeth Haugg. Found living in Hampshire Co., Va. on 1850 Federal Census. By 1856 found living in Benton Co., Ia. Enlisted as a 23 yr. old resident of Gomersal, Benton Co., Ia. on June 24, 1861 as a private in Co. G, 5th Iowa Infantry. Listed as the cook for the Co. mess on Co. return dated Dec.31, 1861. Sent to Syracuse, Mo. sick on Feb. 3, 1862 on Co. return dated March 31, 1862. Listed as left at Syracuse sick on Feb. 3, 1862 and sent to St. Louis, Mo. on Co. return dated July 31, 1862. Died of smallpox (variola confluent, phthisis pul.)on April 2, 1862 at small pox hospital at St. Louis, Mo. Effects: clothing burned. Last paid to Dec.31, 1861 and had drawn clothing in the amount of $36.98 since last settlement. Buried near the hospital his remains were moved after the war to the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. and buried as an unknown U.S. soldier.
