Konstantin Karlovich Danzas
Birth: 1800
Death: Feb. 3, 1870

Russian Imperial Army Major General. Born to a noble Courland family in Saint Petersburg, Russia, he graduated from Tsarskoe Selo Lyceum, in 1817 and began a military career. Through out his career, he distinguished himself in many military campaigns and was awarded the Golden Sword for valor, in 1828. In 1836, as a Lieutenant Colonel, he served in the Caucasus, took part in the Russo-Turkish wars and was severely wounded at the Battle of Brailov. He was a life long friend of poet Alexander Pushkin and on January 27, 1837, Pushkin asked Danzas to be his second in duel with d'Anthès. Pushkin was mortally wounded in the duel and Danzas was at his bedside when he died a few days later. He continued his service in the Russian Army as commander of the Tengin Regiment and retired a Major General in 1856. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
