HOLTON, Lula I. "Inez", 100, of Lake Placid formerly of Arcadia, FL went to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, June 16, 2013 at the Lake Placid Health Care Center. A native of Arcadia, Mrs. Holton was born on May 1, 1913 to parents, Beulah (Cross) and Walter Sullivan. Mrs. Holton spent a great deal of her life working in the school system in DeSoto County. When her late husband, Sheriff Lloyd Holton, passed away, Mrs. Holton became the first female Sheriff in the State of Florida appointed by Governor C. Farris Bryant to complete Lloyd's term from 1963 to 1964. Mrs. Holton enjoyed teaching Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, spending time at the church she loved so much, and loved spending time with her dear family and friends. Mrs. Holton is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd; daughters, Betty Sue Allen and Linda Holton; and son, Louis Welch. She is survived by her loving granddaughters, Lisa Norris and Suzanne Melendez (Helder); grandson, Reese Welch (Regine); great granddaughters, Jennalee Edwards and Kaylee Mills (Jason), Alexis and Isabella Melendez, and Teagan Welch; great grandsons, Mason and Jack Melendez; great -great granddaughters, Graci and Kalli Edwards; son-in-law, Delma Allen and daughter-in-law, Betty Welch. A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Holton will be held 4:00 PM this Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, 1006 N. Brevard Avenue, Arcadia, FL with Rev. Jimmie Collins officiating. Private interment will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
