Henry Elbert McKeen was the son of John Lyman McKeen and Lucinda Snodgrass. He was married at the Maverick Ranch in Bandera Co., TX on 7 October 1884 to Adelheide "Adella" Clementine Oborski, the daughter of Eugene Oborski and Dora Kuehne. Henry grew up mostly in Live Oak County, Texas, and became an expert trail driver. He later became the hide and animal inspector for Bandera County. For eleven years he was the foreman on Albert Maverick's large ranch in Bandera County, but later returned to Live Oak County where he raised horses and cattle. Following this he spent four years in New Mexico where he operated a goat and horse ranch. From there he ranched in Kerrville, Texas for four years before retiring to San Antonio in 1910. He appears in Live Oak County on the 1900 census, and in Kerrville, Kerr County on the 1910 census.

Henry and Adella had six children:

*Henry Elbert, b. August 1886, died 8 June 1908, called in the 1900 census an "idiot from infancy."

*Adella, b. 7 June 1887, died 16 March 1889

*Emery E., b. 10 November 1889, m. Fannie Belle Lewis.

*Minnie Clementine, b. 30 January 1893, m. Alexander Crownover.

*Vida L., b. 2 February 1896, m. Robert Lee Busby

*Effie M., b. 4 February 1906, m. (1) William A. Lutes; m. (2) Edwin E. McCarty.
