Marlin F. Taylor, 94
Marlin F. Taylor, 94, of Blair, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Marlin Floyd Taylor was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Hooper to Floyd A. and Martha M. (Struve) Taylor.
He attended school in Fremont.
On Oct. 9, 1940, he married Erma M. Nielsen at the Evangelical United Bretheren Church in Fremont.
He worked at James Oil Co. in Fremont, then moved to Lincoln and continued to work for the company.
The family returned to Fremont and he worked as a baker at the Vienna Bakery until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1947, the family moved to Ord and he opened the Ord Bakery, which he sold a year later after purchasing the Blair Bakery, and moved to Blair to be closer to family.
The couple worked together for more than 25 years at the bakery and opened the Snack Bar, next to the bakery. The Snack Bar became a place for school kids to have fun, eat their lunch and occasionally, have dances there.
The couple retired in 1980. Some of the school kids kept in touch with them about the "good times" they had at the Snack Bar.
He enjoyed serving on the City Council. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Blair. He enjoyed making furniture, especially making grandfather clocks for each of his three children and wooden toys to take to craft shows in South Dakota.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Every summer, he and his family would go to Lake Melissa at Detroit Lakes, Minn., for two weeks, a tradition that continued with their children's families as well.
Mrs. Taylor died on Feb. 15, 1998.
In his later years, Mr. Taylor made several quilts for his family including baby quilts for his great-grandchildren.
Without question, his three children and their families were his proud contribution to life. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Merle Brower of Watertown, S.D., and Sharalynn and Lyle Joslin of Blair; five grandchildren and their spouses: T.J. Taylor of St. Louis, Mo., Chrissa Taylor of Wahoo, Danielle and Kyle Mather of Norfolk, Lindsay and Josh Benoit and Hailey and Brett Thompson, all of Blair; seven great-grandchildren: Isabella, Addison and Landry Benoit, Mallory and Camryn Mather and Cecelia and Scarlett Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma; and his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Maralee Taylor. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Blair or the Blair Rescue Squad.
