Dr. Lafayette Mantooth, the son of Thomas and Lydia Mantooth, was born in 1851 in Tennessee. He was graduated from the School of Medicine of Tulane University in New Orleans, La. in 1890. In 1905, he was practicing medicine in Lufkin. He also practiced at Homer.
Dr. Mantooth married Mary Annetta (Mollie) Moore at Gonzales, Texas in 1874. One child, Helen Irene, was born to this union in 1875 in Homer. Helen married Dr. Crockett Campbell. Their children are Lafayette, Flo, Mary and Crockett.
