Cenotaph for Sir Thomas de Vere. His body was buried at Colne Priory, and evidently moved to Chapel of St Stephen at Bures, Suffolk.

8th Earl of Oxford, hereditary Chamberlain of England.

Second but eldest surviving son of Sir John de Vere and Maud de Badlesmere.

Husband of Maud de Ufford, daughter and heiress of Ralph de Ufford, Chief Justice of Ireland and Maud, daughter of Henry of Lancaster, the grandson of King Henry III. They were married before 10 June 1350 and had one son, Sir Robert, the 9th Earl of Oxford.

Thomas served in his father's last campaign in 1359 to 1360, and was with King Edward at Calais. He accompanied Lionel, Earl of Antwerp and Earl of Ulster to Ireland in 1361 and 1362.

Sir Thomas died testate at Great Bentley, Essex Sept 12th to 18th.
