Elwin was the son of James Ruffie and Addie May "Oswalt" Walters. He married Annie Louise Mordecai, daughter of Alvie David and Mary Corine "Wilson" Mordecai. They were the parents of a daughter and a son.

NORTHPORT | Elwin Ray Walters, age 76, died October 23, 2003, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held Sunday, October 26, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Chapel with Dr. Steve Canada officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Sunset Funeral Home directing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Ruffie and Addie May Walters.
Survivors include spouse, Louise Walters, Northport; daughter, Teena (Billy) Oyler, Northport; son, Michael D. Walters, Northport; sister, Faye (Hardy) Hollingsworth, Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, O'Neal Jones, J. Travis Walters, Kennetha Jordan, Tracey Hartley, and one great grandchild, James Michael Hartley.
Mr. Walters was a Veteran of WWII. The longest serving member of the Five Points Baptist Church for some fifty plus years. Retired from the Hunt Refining Company.
Pallbearers will be O'Neal Jones, J. Travis Walters, Robert Walters, Steve Morgan, Don Petric, Robert Swanson.
Honorary pallbearers are Members of the Five Points Baptist Church, present and past employees of the Hunt Refining Co., Employees of DCH Home Health Care, Employees of the DCH Regional Medical Center, Dr. Fritz, Dr. Hill, Dr. Otero, Dr. Snow, Dr. Krishnamurthy, Dr. Lopez and the Friends and Neighbors of the Flatwoods Community.
