John Franklin Humerick was born December 3, 1837, in Frederick County, Maryland, son of Andrew and Lydia Anne Hockensmith Humerick. He was also the grandson of John and Eva Freeze Humerick. On November 15, 1859, in Frederick County, Maryland, he was married to Mary Margaret Stauffer, daughter of Eli and Magdalena Stauffer. They were the parents of 11 children: Martha Jennie, Catharine A., George S., Nora Bell, John E., Emma Catherine, William Sanford, Clara Anna Mae Katherine, Mary Kansas, Rosa Grace and Ross Calvin Humerick. Circa 1900, the family moved to Montgomery County, Ohio. John passed away April 26, 1922, in West Carrollton, Montgomery County, and was buried on the 28th in Evergreen Cemetery there.

"John Franklin Humerick died on April 26 at the home of his son, Sanford Humerick, West Carrollton, Ohio, after an illness of several weeks, aged 84 years. Mr. Humerick was a native of Frederick County, having been born here December 3, 1838. In 1859 he married Miss Margaret Stauffer, who died about 15 years ago. He is survived by nine children: Mrs. Jennie Fogle, John E. Humerick, Mrs. Nora Stull, Ross Humerick, Mrs. Harry Penwell, Sanford Humerick, of West Carrollton; Mrs. Jack Burns, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. John Shindeldecker, Thurmont; Mrs. Joseph Click, Rocky Ridge. Two brothers, George and William Humerick, of Emmitsburg, also survive. In addition there are 43 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren surviving. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery, West Carrollton, on Friday afternoon, April 28."

"HUMERICK FAMILY REUNION. Members Gathered At Community Center, Dayton, Ohio. A reunion of the Humerick families, of Dayton, Ohio, originally from Frederick County, was held recently at Community Center, Dayton, Ohio. The occasion was in honor of Mrs. Catherine Shindledecker, Thurmont, daughter of the late John F. Humerick of West Carrollton, Ohio. This was the first time in thirty years this sister had met with her brothers and sisters of West Carrollton. Seven of Mr. Humerick's eight children living were present. The daughters present were, Mrs.Martha J. Fogle, Mrs. Nora B. Stoll, of West Carrollton, Mrs. Catherine Shindledecker, of Thurmont; Mrs. Mary R. Burns and Mrs. Rosa G. Penwell, of Dayton, Ohio; the sons, John E. Humerick, of Dayton, Sanford Humerick and Ross Humerick of West Carrollton. The one absent was Mrs. Annie Click, of Taneytown. Friends, relatives and guests present were as follows: The families of the above brothers and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Anders and family of West Carrollton, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Fogle of Alexandersville; Mr. and Mrs. Dearth and family; Mrs. Lottie Erisman, Mrs. Vera Tietzman, Mrs. Ruth Dodd, and family; Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Hahn, all of Dayton; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fogle and family; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Graham and family, also of Dayton, Ohio; and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moneymaker and family; Mr. and Mrs. William Humerick and family; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fogle and daughter Carrie, all of West Carrollton, Ohio. Ross Humerick presented his sister, Mrs. Shindledecker, with a beautiful silver bread tray. After the noon meal, all were entertained by Miss Hester Fogle, with two fine readings. Besides the seven sons and daughters of the late John Humerick, there were present eighteen grandchildren, and thirty-three great-grandchildren. Dinner was served in the evening."

"Emmitsburg--A reunion consisting of the descendants of the late George, William and John Humerick was held Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Chrismer. A picnic lunch was held on the lawn at 12 noon. This is the first reunion ever held by the Humerick clan and the first time in 40 years that some of the relatives from the west have visited in the east. During the course of the day, a trip was made to the Gettysburg Battlefield and various other interesting points. Those who spent the day together were: Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Hume, Miami, Florida; Marshall Fogle, West Carrollton, Ohio; Sergeant and Mrs. Darrell Fogle and daughter, of New Burn, North Carolina; Mrs. A. C. Wilson and daughter, Mrs. Jack Burns, Mrs. Rose Penwell, all of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Joseph Click, Westminster; Mrs. John Zacharias, Mrs. Mollie Reynolds, Mrs. John F. Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Humerick, all of Emmitsburg."
