Birth: Oct. 8, 1816, Norway
Death: Feb. 8, 1888
Rogaland fylke, Norway

Jacob Vistvik, the progenitor of The Westwick Tree, was a farm foreman at a military estate in Lyngdal, Norway, at the age of sixteen. He moved to the Randaberg area from Kvinnesdal, Flekkefjord, around the year 1845, and built houses and barns in Madla and Randaberg including the Randaberg Church. (Flekkefjord, of Feda Parish, is just south of Stavanger, near Vest Agder Fylke. Further information on this may be found in the Kristiansand records.)

Married in 1849, Jacob lived one or two years in the home of his wife's parents where Peder, the first son and second in line of The Westwick Tree, was born. Acquiring a part of his father-in-law's farm, he built (or re-built) the house and barn. He and his brother bought a neighboring acreage, Gunnarstykket, which they farmed together. It is currently identified as the "home-place", from which sprang the seven branches of The Westwick Tree. The name of the community if Randaberg, located five miles northwest of Stavanger.

Anne Bergithe Enoksdatter Vistvik (Bergitte) probably met Jacob in the year 1845. It is not known exactly when her family moved to Randaberg. Of large stature, it is said she was strong, and her father, seven-foot Enok Anderson Skasheim, could carry a small boat down to the sea.

Jacob had dark hair and was of medium-heavy stature. Jacob himself was known as a strong man (storegut) being at least a head taller than anyone else around. Jakob, her grandson (son of Peder, their firstborn), used to light Anne's pipe.

Their resting places are located to the left of the entrance in the Randaberg Cemetery. This time worn monument to this couple is somewhat hidden behind the marker of their first son, Peder.
