Melvina Smith Reed, 90 of Dayton died Sunday, June 5, in her residence.
She was a long time residence of Rhea County and a member of Walden’s Ridge Homemakers club and Shepard’s Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband John H. Reed, Parents Ralph E. and Rita Drummond Smith, infant children, Calvin and Triplets Barbara, Katherine and Juanita Reed; sister Marguerite Smith Cross, and great grandson Eric Render.
Survivors include two sons Ronald (Lee) Phillips and Nathan (Wilma) Reed both of Dayton; three daughters, Adair (Robert) McElynn, Charlotte (Beecher) Weller both of Dayton, Almedda (Robert) Mullins of Chattanooga; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, two brothers, Wilfred Smith of Lakeland, Fla.; Ralph W. Smith of Augusta, Ga.; sister Refa Watley of Altamont, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, June 8, in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with friend Willard Swafford officiating. Burial will follow in Kiuka/Rogers Cemetery.
At the family’s requests, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 58 Commons, Suite 101, 4355 Highway 58, Chattanooga, Tenn. 37416.
Coulter Garrison Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
