Florence Pudwill was born in Pollock, South Dakota and the oldest child of Fred and Josephine Amanda (Johnson) Pudwill. The family moved to the Hecla, South Dakota area when Florence was about 11 years old. Florence enjoyed recalling her memories of all the time she spent with her Johnson Grandparents. They were her favorite childhood memories.

Florence graduated from Hecla High School and attended Northern Teachers College receiving her teaching certificate. While attending college she worked to provide college funding and her room and board. She taught rural schools in the Hecla area for 2 years.

Florence married Irvin Tobiason December 14, 1940 in her parents living room. It was a double wedding with her brother, Clayton. After their marriage she taught school for another year until she decided to dedicate her time to family and farming activities with her husband. Florence and Irvin farmed in the Hecla area until 1945 when they bought a farm south of Ipswich, South Dakota. They lived on this farm until they retired to their home in Aberdeen in 1981.

While farming Florence wore many hats. The hat she wore the proudest, and deservingly so, was her role as a very loving mother. Other hats include hostess as she always had a delicious meal ready for the family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed canning, embroidering, knitting, sewing, upholstering, and hand- stitched quilts. Many relatives and friends have been recipients of her afghans. Florence opened up their home to family members throughout her life. She also enjoyed the opportunity to work at her neighbors upholstering business.

She was active in the political election process and was a member of her neighborhood extension club. On top of this she was a true farm partner working every machinery and doing every farm chore. During retirement Florence and Irvin lived in Aberdeen and enjoyed traveling to every state in the United States while touring with Farmers Union Bus Trips. They made many friends and enjoyed recalling the memories over coffee and one of Florence's baked goodies.

In 2003 Florence moved to Angelhaus Regional Care Center which specializes in memory care. Florence resided in Angelhaus until October 2012 when she moved to Bethesda Home.

Florence is survived by her husband of 72 years, Irvin Tobiason, Aberdeen; her son, Gary (Karen) Tobiason, Hill City, SD; 1 granddaughter, Dawn (Toby) Olsen, Savage, MN; 2 great-grandchildren, Mitchell ( Breanna) Olsen and Taryn Olsen; 1 great-great-grandson Braiden Olsen; and two brothers, Wilbur Pudwill, Redfield, SD and Jerry Pudwill, Orange, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Amanda Pudwill; two sisters, Gladys Reneau and Lenora Kahlen; and three brothers, Clayton, Dewayne and Charles Pudwill.
